GKIDS introduced on Tuesday that it’s going to start screening Mamoru Hosoda and Studio Chizu‘s new BELLE (Ryū to Sobakasu no Hime, actually “The Dragon and the Freckled Princess”) anime movie within the U.S. on January 14. The movie will display in English and in Japanese with English subtitles.

BELLE opened in Japan on July 16. The movie has IMAX screenings in 38 theaters all through Japan. This makes BELLE the primary of Hosoda’s movies to have IMAX screenings.

The movie has earned a cumulative complete of 6,397,159,950 yen (about US$56.44 million) as of Sunday. The movie is Hosoda’s highest-grossing movie. MX4D screenings for the movie will open on October 22.

France’s Cannes Movie Competition first screened the movie within the competition’s Cannes Premiere part on July 15. It marked the primary Official Choice on the competition for Hosoda. (The director’s earlier Mirai movie screened on the Administrators’ Fortnight, an unbiased part held in parallel to the competition, in 2018.) The movie had its North American premiere at New York Movie Competition on September 25. The movie can have its West coast premiere in Los Angeles’ Animation Is Movie Competition, which will likely be held from October 22-24.

Hosoda (The Lady Who Leapt By Time, Summer time Wars, The Boy and The Beast, Mirai) directed and scripted the movie, and can be credited for the unique work. The movie marks Studio Chizu‘s tenth anniversary. Taisei Iwasaki (Blood Blockade Battlefront, Dragon Pilot: Hisone and Masotan, The Bare Director) is the movie’s music director and composer.
