Ani-One Asia Streams Island of Big Bugs Anime
Hong Kong content material distributor MediaLink Leisure Restricted‘s Ani-One Asia YouTube channel added The Island of Big Bugs anime movie on Sunday.
The theatrical movie version of the anime of Yasutaka Fujimi, RED ICE, and Shu Hirose‘s The Island of Big Bugs (Kyochū Rettō) manga opened in Japan in January 2020. The unique OVA shipped in Japan on DVD in a limited-edition bundle with the manga’s sixth compiled e-book quantity in June 2019.
The survival horror story begins when Mutsumi Oribe and her classmates are flying for a faculty area journey, and their airplane crashes. They drift onto an island dominated by big bugs. The tagline for the anime is, “On that island … people are merely insect fodder.”
Takeo Takahashi (Spice and Wolf, Aki Sora) served as chief director of the anime at Passione, and Shigeru Morita (Arpeggio of Blue Metal – Ars Nova) wrote the script. Takayuki Noguchi (Queen’s Blade: Rebel) designed the characters.
The movie’s employees ran a Kickstarter crowdfunding marketing campaign for an English dub in February 2020, however that marketing campaign failed to achieve its purpose. A later marketing campaign in July 2020 reached its purpose in August 2020.
