TV Tokyo introduced on Wednesday that it’s producing the Mattari! Akado Suzunosuke live-action collection based mostly on Tsunayoshi Takeuchi‘s Akado Suzunosuke manga. The collection stars kabuki actor Matsuya Onoe II (seen under) as protagonist Suzunosuke, and it’ll premiere on BS TV Tokyo and TV Osaka on January 8.

The collection will depict what occurs after the story of Takeuchi’s authentic manga, and can function a totally authentic story. Suzunosuke, now a mature swordsman, is time warped from the Edo interval to the trendy day.

Onoe can be making his singing debut with the collection’ theme music “RED.” Aimi will carry out a rendition of “Ganbare! Akado Suzunosuke,” the opening theme of the manga’s 1972 anime adaptation, because the live-action collection’ ending theme music.

Takeuchi’s authentic manga ran in Shonengahosha‘s Shonen Gaho journal from 1954 to 1960. The manga’s anime adaptation ran from 1972 to 1973. Each Isao Takahata and Hayao Miyazaki of Studio Ghibli fame labored on the collection, the previous as performing chief director. Miyazaki storyboarded three episodes of the anime, and Disney launched these episodes as a part of its “The Collected Works of Hayao Miyazaki ” Blu-ray Disc field set.
